Let Our Imagination Run Wild - English Storytelling Videos
Rising to the Challenges during COVID-19 and Beyond
Apart from conducting live storytelling sessions, the NET Section supports English learning and the promotion of family literacy and cross-generational reading by producing a series of storytelling videos which are now accessible online.
The storytelling video production was initially a response to the need to provide more resource support for schools and parents during the class suspension period as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Transferring our storytelling programme from live performance to video has presented many new challenges that we had not faced before - not only technological challenges but how to connect with and engage teachers, parents and children remotely.
Tapping into our own childhood is a very important part of the process. We always tell parents that they must engage with the world of the child rather than vice versa and that storytelling is the perfect way to immerse yourself in your child’s world every day.
We try to combine the naive enthusiasm of our childhood with the careful planning of a trained teacher in designing our video content and learning focuses.
These videos provide models to inspire teachers, parents and children to bring stories alive in their own way and through their own imaginations.
