Literacy Instruction Series

The RNCT organises a Centralised Professional Development workshop on Using Multimodal Texts in the English Language Classroom.
The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • understand the place of multimodal texts in the ELE Curriculum;
  • explore the use of multimodal texts to enhance students’ critical thinking and creative language use;
  • explore the functions and possibilities of IT tools and multimedia applications; and
  • consider ways to engage students in evaluating and commenting on the work.  

    In the workshop, the differences between written and multimodal texts are explored as well as what skills students can learn from interacting with multimodal texts.


As in the LTA of Reading workshops, the principles of the Assess-Plan-Teach cycle for curriculum planning and the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) model of instruction are promoted:
