Suspending Classes But Not Suspending Learning

Date2020-02-18 to 2021-03-27

Despite the challenge facing us, we should continue to make student learning one of our top priorities. As the professional arm of the NET Scheme, the NET Section would like to offer the following suggestions as to how NETs and local English teachers can collaborate to support student learning during this period of class suspension:

•NETs are encouraged to discuss with their EPC and other colleagues their role in supporting student learning during this period.

•NETs and their colleagues can make the most of the infinite possibilities offered by e-learning to support student learning and to facilitate the monitoring and tracking of their learning, as well as to maintain professional exchanges that benefit student learning.

•Alternative platforms, such as online resource platforms (including those managed by the EDB), learning management systems, etc. can be explored to flip learning.

•NETs and their colleagues can also explore video conferencing apps and software to maximise their virtual presence and increase their live interaction with students by means of online discussion, sharing of ideas and face-to-face instruction. These apps and software also allow real-time feedback for students. [Please click here for a list of recommended online tools.]

•The NET Section’s Advisory Teachers (for primary schools) and Regional NET Coordinators (for secondary schools) are ready to offer professional advice to schools on how to engage NETs and other English teachers in supporting student learning using technology and online tools.
