2018 World Book Day Fest

The 2018 World Book Day Fest was co-organised by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) and the Education Bureau (EDB). The NET Section presented two sessions titled: Animate your own favourite story.

The presenters are coordinators of a NET Section’s “Seed” project titled Coding to Learn (C2L), which aims to explore ways to use coding as a means of motivating and supporting primary students to learn English as a second language. They shared how C2L project schools enhance the literacy development of their students by engaging them in coding activities. Participants in this session were provided with tablets and learnt how to code an animation using ScratchJr, an app designed to introduce coding skills to children. They first listened to a story, identified the structure of a narrative and then explored the new language of coding to create and share their own animated story. This session was hands-on and fun!
