Description of the competition

The "Shorts on Stage" Drama Competition is open to all students from secondary schools in Hong Kong offering the Senior Secondary English Language Curriculum. The competition has two parts: script writing and drama performance. Each team that enters the competition must have three to four student writers and three to four student performers. The student writers are responsible for writing a drama script based on one of the designated short stories in the NET Section eBook, Shorts 2010-2014: Student-created Short Stories for Reading and Appreciation. The script must be submitted to the NET Section 10 days before the date of the competition. The student performers are responsible for performing the story on stage on the day of the competition. The writers and the performers may be the same students or they may be different.

The aims of the "Shorts on Stage" Drama Competition are to provide:

  • students with an opportunity to collaborate on writing a drama script based on a short story from the NET Section eBook, Shorts 2010-2014: Student-created Short Stories for Reading and Appreciation;
  • students with an opportunity to perform the drama on stage for an interschool competition; and
  • teachers with learning and teaching resources, teaching strategies and classroom activities for the elective modules on Learning English through Short Stories and Learning English through Drama in the Senior Secondary English Language Curriculum.
